2015 Ole Miss Preview

After a mixed bag of outcomes, last season saw notable wins such as being the only team to beat Alabama before the playoff, beating a Boise State team that would end up going on to win the Fiesta Bowl, an Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State topped off with wins over Tennessee and Texas A&M, as well as some bitter defeats like the 10-7 loss to LSU, followed by the heartbreaking 35-31 defeat to Auburn after star receiver Laquon Treadwell suffered a broken leg missing the game-winning touchdown by an inch.

Right when it seemed like Ole Miss was going to be able to put on a special performance and claim victory to finish off their season, TCU dominated securing a crushing 43-2 victory over Ole Miss.

Is the opportunity still there for Ole Miss to return to its glory that was the 2013 recruiting class completely changing the program, or is the run over?

The defence last season was exceptional, this saw Ole Miss finish first in the nation in scoring defence holding nine teams to 17 points or fewer. This defence was led by DT Robert Nkemdiche, with him returning this year there shouldn’t be much of a dropoff in this department.

The let down in the offence last season was the lack of consistency. If the defence is able to execute in the way we have seen in the past there won’t be much heavy lifting for the offence to do.

What you need to know about the offence:

  • The offence needs to be more consistent, it is imperative they improve on last season where they connected on less than 50% of their passes in 5 of the last 7 games.

What you need to know about the defence:

  • Look to see the defence do a lot of what they did in the previous season. Their defence was the highlight of the team, proving to be one of the most dangerous defensive lines in the league.

Ole Miss will be successful this season if they are able to win ten games, as covered their biggest flaw is the inconsistency of their offence. If changes can be made to correct these flaws they will be a force to be reckoned with.
