2015 Texas Tech Preview

2014 was out of character for Texas Tech. For a program that won eight or more games 11 times in their last 13 seasons, finishing 4-8 last season was a record-breaking disappointment becoming their worst campaign since 1990. 2015 is the year Texas Tech has to step up and prove it can keep the pace.

The 2014 Texas Tech offence executed on exactly what you would expect the offence to do. providing over 500 yards per game even supplying some highlight performances. However, this offence failed in comparison to that of TCU who outdid Texas Tech to the tune of 82 points and by Baylor later in the year. It was clear the defence was lacking in this past season placing the third-worst in college football in terms of allowing points.

After this poor display throughout 2014 Kingsbury and his staff will have to prove there is more to Texas Tech than just a pretty offence.

With 50 returning lettermen, seven starters returning on defence it would be hard-pressed to perform worse than 2014. The offence remains strong with ten starters back on Offence.

What you need to know about the offence:

  • Don’t expect allot to change within Texas Tech’s offence. Averaging over 500 yards each game, finishing 5th in the nation in regards to passing, there won’t be a lot of need to change up things in respect to this part of the field.

What you need to know about the defence:

  • After a dreadful performance as one of the nations worst defences, Texas Tech is looking to start over clean slate by hiring new defensive coordinator David Gibbs. It’s important for the front four to be better against the run, especially on the inside. However, the pass-rushing tandem of Pete Robertson and Branden Jackson should be outstanding.

It’s not surprising that the key to Texas Tech’s success this season lies with their defence. Already having a high-level offence, the defence needs to step up to the plate in order to ensure victory.
