Atlantic City – The Boxing & Casino City Like No Other

UK Gambling ban

If ever anyone was to rank locations in terms of their passion for pugilism, Atlantic City in New Jersey would surely be near the top of the list. The coastal New Jersey city is famed for its bustling casinos and the iconic boardwalk, although boxing has always been a hugely influential part of life here too.

Many of the biggest title fights throughout the 20th century were held in Atlantic City, which remains one of the most popular boxing destinations well into the 21st century. This is a place steeped in ringside history, boasting an unrivalled passion for all things boxing. This is a place where the sport is cherished and revered, and where legends are enshrined.

That is precisely what the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame (ACBHOF) aims for, when honoring a host of new inductees each year. Along with remembering the success of local and international boxers, recognition for the unsung heroes is just as important. Notable inductees include trainers, cutmen, referees, announcers, promotors, and commentators.

2020 & 2021 Inductees

Since the inaugural induction ceremony held in 2017, the annual Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame event has become a popular event. Typically held in the summer and over a spectacular weekend of activities, it wasn’t possible to hold the event last year. However, the ACBHOF will hold a combined induction ceremony, honoring their 2020 and 2021 inductees.

Showcasing his remarkable career, Roy Jones Jr. is amongst the 2020 inductees. Widely regarded as the greatest pound for pound boxer of all time, Jones fought in five different weight divisions. Many of his most exciting fights were held in Atlantic City, including several title bouts. During 75 fights, Jones achieved 66 wins and 47 knockouts.

Another former champion, Riddick Bowe is featured prominently within the selection of 2021 inductees. Already inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015, “Big Daddy” Bowe enjoyed a phenomenal heavyweight career. The highlight was his victory against then-unbeaten Evander Holyfield in 1992, winning the undisputed WBA, WBC, and IBF titles.

Hall of Fame Event

This year the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame event will be held in August, which is certain to attract plenty of enthusiasts. Programming includes meet and greets with attending boxing celebrities, historic exhibits and memorabilia, plus artistic displays which showcase everything great about boxing. Of course, it also presents an opportunity to soak up the casino culture, for which the city is famed.

Many of the local casinos have adapted to the digital age, which means there are now lots of New Jersey online casino strategies and examples to choose from, even if you can’t visit Atlantic City itself. Indeed, it’s now possible to experience quality casino gaming from the comfort of home, and via mobile devices while travelling around.

That said, the lure of visiting Atlantic City is always hard to resist, especially for anyone living in or around the State of New Jersey. Aside from all the great casino entertainment on offer, for boxing fans this year, the added attraction will inevitably the Boxing Hall of Fame event this summer.

Consider it a pilgrimage of sorts, as fans from far and wide assemble to pay homage. Boxing in Atlantic City has always been worthy of great praise.
