Holycross Win At Colgate

Holycross enjoyed a successfully visit to Colgate this Friday afternoon. The Crusaders earned a hard-fought 70-60 win with Justin Burnell the nights MVP. From point guard he scored 15 points and assisted 8 for his teammates. Other standout performances came from Malachi Alexander who contributed 14 points which included two impressive three pointers. Eric Grreen and Malcolm Miller put up 13 and 12 respectively for Holy Cross.

After the first half the Crusaders found themselves behind on the score board. Colgate held a 36-27 lead and looked good doing so. However Coach Milan Brown clearly managed to rally his player who impressively came back into the game. Mid-way through the second half Holy Cross scored 11 points without return to swing the match in their favour and ultimately secure the win, which was much needed. Holycross had lost two consecutive games before this one. Defeats against Loyola and American were close run but decisive in the ned, leading some fans to lose faith in their side. This win goes someway to helping improving morale but one look at the record tells you all is not well for the Crusaders. So far this season they have been inconsistent at best. A record of (9-12, 4-7 Patriots League) shows they have lost more than they’ve won. This is something that will need to change quickly if they hope to enjoy a successful 2014/15 season.

Ethan Jacobs of Colgate can count himself unlucky to have been on the losing side tonight. He led the line well for his team, scoring 13 points. He was supported by Matt McMullen who added 12 point as well as Austin Tillotson and Luke Roh who both chipped in with 10 points.

Colgate (10-14, 7-4) now have a similarly inconsistent record and will need to get back in the win column as soon as possible.
