Holy Cross Secure Dramatic Late Win Against Morgan State

Holy Cross secured a last gasp win in their game against Morgan Sate today. In the final play of the game Shane Smith scored on a one-yard touchdown to earn The Crusaders the dramatic 29-26 victory.

Despite defeat The Bears have something to smile about and that is the emergence of back-up running back Herb Walker. The youngster came in for Lamont Brown III who’ll miss the entire season, after he tore his ACL during the season opener against East Michigan. Walker enjoyed a brilliant game and even set a school record in the process. His 271 rushing yards is a new Morgan State record. The previous record was set by Jason Jackson who ran for 251 yards for Morgan State against Savannah State in 2005. such a performance can only build expectation on the stand-in. Walker scored two touchdowns, one for 46 yards, the other just two. The second gave his side the lead with just 3:39 left on the clock, however it wasn’t to be. Holycross pulled out

Morgan State finished with 413 yards overall, 356 of which were rushing. The Crusaders totalled 379 yards with Pete Pujalis completing 16 of 29 passes for 193 yards.

With the win Holy Cross are now even at 1-1 in the first two games of the season. Last time out they lost another tight affair against Albany. The season opener was decided by just one point, as Albany emerged 14-13 winners.

Morgan State will be boxing themselves after twice putting up good performances but coming out losers. In their first game of the season they lost another game but a very small margin. East Michigan ran out 31-28 winners when the two teams met Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
