Oregon Duck: Season Preview 2013
Oregon Ducks football team competes on behalf of the University of Oregon. The plays at NCAA Division I level and is a part of the FBS as well as being a member of Pac-12. Conference
During the 2012 season ‘The Ducks finished the campaign with a record of 12 wins and just one defeat. They also won the Fiesta Bowl beating Kansas State 35-17, to claim the Pac 12 title.
On the back of such success Oregon Ducks are rightfully hopeful heading into the new season. They hope to retain the Pac 12 title and become contenders for even bigger honors.
However, the team have been dealt a significant blow during the off season. Offensive coach and tactical wizard Chip Kelly has ended his four-year stint at the college after being offered a role with NFL side The Philadelphia Eagles. In steps Scott Frost who will be tasked with ensuring standards don’t drop this season. They shouldn’t as Oregon boast one of the most talented rosters in all of college football.
In the 2012 season Oregon ranked 2nd nationally in terms of points per game scoring an average of 49.5. ‘The Ducks’ also found themselves in the top five for rushing yards (315.2 per game) as well as total yards (537.4 per game).
Sophomore quarterback Marcus Mariota stepped up when Orgeon needed it most last season. After two-year starter Darron Thomas, departed early to try his hand in the professional ranks. ‘Duck’s fans needn’t have worried though and that become obvious during Mariota’s opening game. The Hawaiian threw for 2,677 yards, 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He also a Mariota rushed for 752 yards and five touchdowns.
The defence retained seven of its starts but has unfortunately lost linebackers Kiko Alonso and Michael Clay who are heading to the NFL.
