Brady Hoke Talks Exciting Freshman Jabrill Peppers

Soon to be Michigan State freshman Jabrill Peppers is the biggest recruit the school have landed in many years. The cornerback was the voted #1 overall prospect by ESPN and was coveted by a whole host of different teams.

In the internet-age high school football stars can have a serious reputation and Peppers certainly has that. The prospect heads to Ann Harbor with a ton of hype and expectation on his young shoulders. He also has the reputation as someone who is very confident, whilst some believe he is an arrogant or cocky player.

However there remains some debate about exactly which is his best position and how he fits in to this Michigan team. Cornerback, safety, wide receiver and running back are just some of the options for coach Brady Hoke to consider. Speaking to Campus Insiders the Michigan boss give little insight into his plans for his newest recruit, he said Peppers will begin his career as a nickel cornerback. But when our interviewer asked about the freshman potentially being fielded as part of the Michigan offense, Hoke faced beamed with a wry smile, “we’ll see” he said.

Due to his ability to play both ways Peppers has been likened to Michigan great, Heisman Trophy and first ballot NFL hall of famer winner Charles Woodson. That’s big pressure to place on a rookie and coach Hoke appears intent to not add to the burden of being so highly regarded.

The smart move from Michigan would to only use Peppers sparingly in offense this season. By switching between positions too often the youngster risks not fulfilling his potential in either. If he commits to cornerback Peppers can master the position in his freshman year. Then and only then can he think about moving into offensive positions and becoming an attacking start in Hokes Michigan side.
