Pittsburgh Defeats Virginia Tech, 21- 16

On the 16th of October (2014) Pittsburgh was able to best Virginia Tech defeating them, 21-16.

Virginia Tech found themselves off to a slow start while the team still seemed to be spent at the end of the match.

What could have been a competitive match between the two teams, ended up being a one-sided contest with Pittsburgh ending up on top.

With this being a make or break game for Pittsburgh’s season the Panthers responded in dominant fashion displaying a performance akin to there initial start to the season.

Virginia Tech was unable to pick up a first down until there were 6 minutes left in the half as their Quarterback Michael Brewer struggled to find any momentum.

Some highlights of the game, Tyler Boyd taking a pass 53 yards for a score and James Conner running for scores from 15 and 14 yards out.

The Panthers stiffened their defence in the first three quarters only allowing Joey Slye field goals from 42, 24 and 21 yards out.

A second scoring run for Connor came at the beginning of the fourth quarter securing a 21-9 lead for his team but this was not taken lightly with the Hokies fighting back with Cam Phillips securing a 14-yard touchdown catch.

While they had an opportunity, the Pittsburgh defence seemed to be too strong for them to handle.

  • James Connor ran 16 times for 85 yards and a touchdown.
  • Virginia Tech’s Quarterback Michael Brewer completed a total of 26 out of 45 passes for 265 yards and a score.
