Amanda Serrano Confident Her Power Will Translate To Another Weight Class

Amanda Serrano is confident her power will translate to yet another weight class.

Serrano is set to rematch Katie Taylor on July 20. Although the first fight was at 135lbs, the two will now be boxing at 140lbs, which Serrano says was due to Taylor asking for it.

Although Amanda Serrano is moving up in weight again, she believes her power will translate nicely to 140lbs and is confident she can hurt Katie Taylor at 140lbs.

“Listen, everyone knows I’m the unified featherweight champion. I’ve said it many times, anything over that [weight], it’s hard for me. Obviously [at] 135, I [didnโ€™t get the win against Katie], but for the opportunity to fight Katie Taylor [again], I took the fight [at] 140. Her team said, โ€˜youโ€™ve got to do it at 140โ€™. I really want the fight,” Amanda Serrano said at the press conference.

“The fight is for the fans, so greatness requires sacrifice. So once again, I’m sacrificing my body. I’m sacrificing everything to go up three divisions. The last time was two divisions. I believe I won. I heard Katie, I think going up another division, I can do the same thing. My power was going to come with me and this is a great opportunity for both of us and it is what it is. I just got to eat more. Iโ€™m a Latina, so I get to eat a lot more rice,” Serrano added.

If Serrano wins, a trilogy could be next, but she isn’t worried about that. Instead, she says she’s just focused on moving up to 140lbs and this fight on July 20.

“I mean, we’ll see that night if Katie wants it. I don’t know. We’ll see. I’m just concentrating on this fight, concentrating on making the 140 and going out there and giving it my all,” Serrano said.
