Amir Khan Pondering Retirement Following Kell Brook Defeat

Amir Khan

We may have seen the last of Amir Khan.

Khan returned to the ring for the first time since 2019 when he fought Kell Brook in a much-anticipated welterweight grudge match last night.

While he displayed plenty of heart, Khan never truly got going as he was constantly peppered by Brook throughout the contest.

The referee eventually called off the contest in the sixth round as Brook earned the TKO win.

It was a big setback for Khan who believes the love for the sport he once had is no longer there as retirement could be imminent.

“I’ve had 40 fights, winning two world titles, fighting in America and around the world,” Khan told Sky Sports. “I need to sit down with my family. But it is more towards the end of my career.

“The love for the sport isn’t there anymore. In the ring, I didn’t have excitement and that push. That’s maybe a sign that I should call it a day. But let’s see.”

Although nothing is official yet, it appears Khan may call it a day. Especially going by his comments at the post-fight press conference.

“I’ve done more than I ever expected. Maybe I peaked too early in my career, I was at the Olympics at 17, I won the world title at 22. I’m 35 now, I’ve been in the game a very long time, I’m an old man now.

“I want to spend time with my kids and my family. I want to be there for my family, I want to take them to school at be that father.”

Do you think this is the last time we see Amir Khan in a boxing ring?
