Callum Smith On Canelo Alvarez Fight: ‘Iām Not Rocky Fielding’
Callum Smith has heard all the talk he will just be like Rocky Fielding against Canelo Alvarez.
Smith is a sizeable underdog but believes Alvarez is not as good at this weight as many think. He also believes Fielding was the easiest opponent for the champion.
āI think the position heās in, to be a pound-for-pound great, youāve gotta have the wins on your record, youāve gotta fight the best, youāve gotta take chances,ā Smith said (via Boxingscene). āAnd I think that was it ā that he didnāt fight me or [David] Benavidez or [Caleb] Plant. He picked the easy option, to fight for the regular belt. But as I say, you canāt really knock him now because heās fighting for the genuine one and at 175, he fought for the genuine one [WBO]. So, I donāt know what his reasons was [for fighting me]. But yeah, I do think he took a bit of criticism because of the position heās in. People demand the biggest fights, and that certainly wasnāt one.ā
Of course, Callum Smith knocked out Rocky Fielding but did it earlier. So, Smith believes he is much better than Fielding and doesn’t get the comparison. He is also expecting to bring Alvarez into deep waters and expects to shock the world.
āI think the two of us have done a similar job on him,ā Smith said, āand people are reading into that. āYeah, Rocky was tall and look what happened to him [against Alvarez].ā But I think our fight showed Iām not Rocky Fielding. Iāve got the size Rockyās got, but Iāve got a lot more ability to go with it. So, I think Caneloās in for a tougher night than he was in New York a couple of years ago.ā
Who do you think will win, Canelo Alvarez or Callum Smith?
