Canelo Alvarez On Snub From ESPN’s P4P #1: There Will Always Be People Who Are ‘Never Gonna Like You’

Canelo Alvarez knows a vast majority of people will never like him regardless of what he does.

Although many pundits consider him the pound-for-pound king, ESPN’s list still has Terence Crawford at the top spot. Despite Alvarez holding multiple belts across multiple divisions, it still isn’t enough as Crawford is undefeated and rather dominating at welterweight. Alvarez, however, isn’t paying attention to any of it as he knows regardless of what he does, people still won’t like him.

“There’s always gonna be that group of people that no matter what you do, they’re never gonna care, they’re never gonna like you,” Alvarez said after his fight (via BoxingScene). “It doesn’t matter how many titles you earn, they’re never gonna care, they’re never gonna like you. But there is that group of people that always stick with you. And that’s who I’m happy to have, and that’s who I’m happy to keep happy.”

Canelo Alvarez is coming off a dominant win over Callum Smith to win the WBA (Super), The Ring, and vacant WBC super middleweight titles. He also believes that win proved he is the best in the world.

“I’m the best in the world,” Alvarez said on the DAZN broadcast via an interpreter. “In the first round, I tried to see what he brings, the skills or whatever, but like you can see, I showed what I am.”

The Mexican is now expected to compete on DAZN in February and May against Avni Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders, respectively, according to Mike Coppinger. If he can get past both men, the trilogy against Gennady Golovkin should happen as it is a fight the fans want to see. Whether or not Alvarez and Eddie Hearn can get those fights done are to be seen. For now, Alvarez is just enjoying his win despite not being ranked the pound-for-pound best.
