Dmitry Bivol’s Manager Thinks Canelo Alvarez Wants The Rematch, Doubts The Mexican’s Team Does

Canelo Alvarez, Dmitry Bivol

Vadim Kornilov, the longtime manager of Dmitry Bivol, doesn’t think Canelo Alvarez‘s team agrees with the fighter to pursue the rematch with the Russian.

After Alvarez suffered an upset decision loss to Bivol, he made it clear he wanted the rematch. Yet, he has since gone on to beat Gennady Golovkin and will now box John Ryder on May 6. After that, it’s uncertain who will be next and that is because Kornilov believes Alvarez’s team doesn’t actually want the rematch with Bivol, instead, it’s just Alvarez that wants it.

“I do believe that Eddie, the fans and DAZN want the rematch,” Kornilov told RingTV.com (h/t BoxingScene). “There is no doubt this fight is attractive, as this is a fight Canelo clearly lost by majority of the rounds. I am sure Canelo personally wants revenge as well. At the same time, I don’t think Canelo’s team wants this fight and everything will be done to try to avoid this rematch and I don’t blame them. Canelo has said in the press that he only lost by a couple of rounds in the fight, then he said he wanted to fight Dmitry next in May and now he is all in. At the end of the day, actions speak louder than words.”

As of right now, Canelo Alvarez will be focused on Ryder and assuming he wins, it will be interesting to see if the Dmitry Bivol rematch will be next. Although it is a big fight and a chance at redemption for Alvarez, Kornilov doubts the Mexican’s team will make the fight despite what Alvarez will tell them.
