Former World Champion Robert Easter Jr Shot Three Times During Robbery

Former IBF lightweight world champion, Robert Easter Jr, 31, was shot three times during a robbery attempt last Sunday in Toledo, Ohio

Easter is currently in hospital after undergoing surgery  to remover bullet frgaments and is expected to recover from his injuries.

WTOL 11 first reported that ‘E-Bunny’ was approached group asking him for money, eventually making off with three diamond rings, a mobile phone and two gold chains.

“His father, Robert Easter Sr., confirmed the news to WTOL 11 Monday morning. He said the former IBF lightweight champion was shot three times after he was confronted about 6:30 p.m. by a group of men who demanded money,” (Transcribed by WTOL)

“Cincinnati police said the incident happened in the 1100 block of Sycamore Street. Easter Jr. told investigators an unknown suspect approached him behind and said “Give me those,” referring to pieces of jewellery. Easter ran and was shot multiple times.”

Robert Easter Jr’s Fighting Career

The American was a successful amateur career, going 213-17 and being selected as an alternate for the 2012 Olympics. Easter would turn professional later on that hear under the advice of friend and former world champion Adrien Broner, whom they share a trainer.

Easter won his IBF strap back in 2016, defeating Richard Commey via a split decision for the vacant title. Easter would successful defend the belt three times which included a win over Javier Fortuna before he would meet Mikey Garcia in a unification bout which Garcia would go onto win.

Since the loss Easter has not been as active as he probably would of hope, only competing three times since 2018. Most recently Easter had gained a win over Ryan Martin in February of 2021.
