Frank Warren Confirms Approach Made For Anthony Joshua vs. Joe Joyce

Anthony Joshua Joe Joyce

An initial approach has been made over a potential Anthony Joshua vs. Joe Joyce fight.

Joyce’s promoter Frank Warren revealed the news in a recent interview while stating his belief that Joyce would knock “AJ” out should the fight happen.

With that said, Warren doesn’t expect Joshua or his promoter Eddie Hearn to accept the fight.

โ€œWhat have you got to lose? I fancy Joe,โ€ Warren told talkSPORT. โ€œFor Joe, you look at the two fighters: Joe has got a tremendous chin, heโ€™s got great stamina. They talk about what happened to him as an amateur, well theyโ€™re not amateurs anymore, theyโ€™re pros.ย

โ€œIf you look at how theyโ€™ve got on since theyโ€™ve become pros, AJ has done brilliantly. He became world champion. Heโ€™s also been beaten twice and heโ€™s been exposed, certainly in his last fight. Very exposed. And I fancy Joe can knock him over.

โ€œWe have made initial contact but I donโ€™t think theyโ€™ll go with it. If they want it, they can have it.”

Joshua was expected to fight Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch for the heavyweight titles. However, with Usyk currently defending Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion, that fight is on the backburner for now.

Joshua has been open to an interim fight in the meantime and has been going back-and-forth with his former training partner in Joyce on social media in recent days.
