Jake Paul Asked If It Was Racist To KO Nate Robinson

Jake Paul

YouTube celebrity turned professional boxer Jake Paul was forced to repeatably shut down questions about racism during a recent TV appearance.

Paul has transitioned to boxing in 2020 and improved his record to 2-0 on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr and scored a highlight-reel knockout win over former NBA player Nate Robinson in the pay-per-view co-main event.

Post-fight Paul called for fights with SBG teammates Dillon Danis and Conor McGregor. He has also previously mentioned squaring off with Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren, attracting a lot of attention from the MMA community including Cejudo who took to social media to call him out on Sunday before the pair exchanged barbs.

While appearing on Cari & Jemele (Won’t) Stick to Sports, Paul took offence to being repeatably asked if knocking out Robinson, a black man, was racist.

“Was it racist to knock a black man out? That is the question of the week,” the interviewer said.

“Stop asking me that,” Paul replied. “I said no. It’s a sh*tty question. It’s a sport. How does this have anything to do with race? It doesn’t.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

The question caused some concern among boxing fans, who rarely side with Paul but did so in this instance. Cari Champion took to social media to insist she and her co-host Jemele Hill where just “trolling”, she wrote.

“Y’all, @jemelehill and I were trolling a troll with permission about her. This wasn’t an interview with weight. It was sarcastic- y’all need context? Bc if y’all can’t hear the laughing, the bad WiFi connection- smh. So for the outraged! For more context Thurs. at 1130pm on @VICETV.”

Do you think Jake Paul was in on this joke?
