Oleksandr Usyk Consdering Drop Back Down To Cruiserweight To Win ‘A Few More of The World Belts’

Oleksandr Usyk is thinking about a return to cruiserweight.

Usyk is currently the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring heavyweight champion but began his career at cruiserweight and was the undisputed cruiserweight champion from 2018 to 2019 being the first champion to hold all four major world titles.

However, after his move up to heavyweight, many expected this is where Usyk would end his career. But, that may not be the case as the Ukrainian says he is thinking about a drop down to cruiserweight.

“I was thinking about returning to cruiserweight and getting a few more of the world belts,” Usyk told Parimatch. “You know, being a heavyweight means you have to be really heavy. You must eat a lot. It’s not hard to fight with these giants, but it’s really hard to eat all the time.”

Although Oleksandr Usyk is having a ton of success at heavyweight, he believes he’s the better cruiserweight which is why he thinks about dropping back down in weight.

“And now I work much more than I did as a cruiserweight, particularly in the training camps,” Usyk continued. “I had to swim ten kilometers and train hard. At this moment I just want to stop and take a rest. A half of a year of training is hard work. I didn’t see my family for such a long time, I didn’t see my wife, children or anyone.”

Oleksandr Usyk (20-0) is coming off back-to-back decision wins over Anthony Joshua while prior to that he beat Derek Chisora. In his career, he holds notable wins over Tony Bellew, Murat Gassiev, Michael Hunter, and Krzyzstof Glowacki. However, he has not fought at cruiserweight since 2018 when he beat Bellew.
