Tommy Fury opens up about how drinking cost him his family

Tommy Fury

Reality TV and boxing star Tommy Fury has opened up on how drinking cost him his family in a recent documentary.

As we know, Tommy Fury isn’t exactly considered to be the biggest star in the world of professional boxing. However, between his surname and some of the high profile bouts he’s been involved in, he certainly holds a certain level of star power. It also helps that he’s been able to build an even bigger base off the back of his time on the UK edition of Love Island many years ago.

Tommy Fury went through a notable break-up with Molly-Mae Hague last year which was highly scrutinized, as you can probably imagine. The two had been in the spotlight ever since being on Love Island, and it seemed to bleed over into his boxing career.

In a recent documentary, Tommy Fury opened up on what went wrong for him, and he also got pretty honest about his shortcomings.

Tommy Fury opens up on his troubles

“Having a drink is what cost me my entire family.”

“During this documentary a lot of my hardest times have been documented,” Fury tells BBC Sport.

“[The documentary is about] how to navigate tough times.

“What’s it like behind the scenes of an actual boxing fight.

“And how difficult it is to balance everything – being a family man, fighter and work life.”

“Training was my escape. I’d always feel amazing coming out of the gym no matter what was happening, even if my life was falling apart,” Fury says.

“My relationship with boxing is as it’s always been. I’ve still got the same goals, I’m still hungry.

“I am still up at four or five in the morning running, still training three times a day. The hunger is still there.

“If it wasn’t for boxing, I wouldn’t have what I have in my life.

“Boxing has opened every single door for me. I owe my life to boxing.”
