Yordenis Ugas Says He’ll Be Even More Prepared For Manny Pacquiao In Potential Rematch

WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas believes the result will not change if a potential rematch with Manny Pacquiao is on the horizon.

Ugas defended his title against Pacquiao earlier this month after an impressive unanimous decision victory in their short-notice welterweight bout. Despite the short notice, Ugas was still a considerable underdog going into the fight which made the win even more impressive.

Many observers felt it was time for Pacquiao to retire soon after while the former eight-division champion himself said he was considering it. However, he also stated that his legs were cramped during the fight which affected his performance.

No matter what happened the first time, Ugas feels the result won’t change in a potential rematch — because then he’ll be even more prepared.

“The main difference if there is a rematch is that we will be even better prepared,” Ugas said (via Boxing Scene). “That is an important distinction heading into the rematch where I will have a full training camp specifically preparing for Manny Pacquiao.”

Ugas still has great respect for Pacquiao, especially as he was targeting a fight with him for a while. That is why he is more than happy to face him a second time.

“Manny Pacquiao is a legend. He is a warrior,” Ugas added. “There was never any concern over taking the fight on short notice. Manny Pacquiao is a legend.

“The moment it was offered, I said yes. It will be my honor and pleasure to face him again.”

In the end, it all depends on Pacquiao and whether he’ll continue fighting.
