Anthony Joshua Plans To Fight Like Canelo Alvarez Against Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua plans on bringing out the Canelo Alvarez within him when he faces Tyson Fury.

Joshua recently defended his heavyweight titles after an impressive ninth-round knockout of Kubrat Pulev earlier this month.

He is now on a collision course with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury with a title unification clash verbally agreed to for a May or June date.

Most observers as well as bookmakers have Fury as the betting favorite going into the fight. However, Joshua is confident of getting the win as he believes his experience will allow him to perform to his best while remaining relaxed at the same time.

“Relaxed, I can see everything he’s doing. I analyse it and react well,” Joshua told iFL TV when asked how he saw the fight going (via Metro). “I don’t want to say too much, but basically when I’m in front of him, for other people the boxer in front of them is moving at a million miles an hour. But for me I know how to slow down the fighter and see everything that’s coming, so I can be in my zone and see everything that’s happening.

“I’ve been on the big stage, so that’s helped me deal with a lot of pressure. When you’re tense, if I flinch you react, you don’t know how to parry, defend, slip. I’ll just be very relaxed in there.”

These are qualities associated with Alvarez who comfortably dominated the previously undefeated Callum Smith over 12 rounds this past weekend to become the WBA and WBC super-middleweight champion.

And “AJ” plans on emulating the pound-for-pound king against Fury.

“Very relaxed but very alert, kind of like Canelo,” Joshua added. “He doesn’t look like he comes out of first gear. You will just see a style that’s there to win. I won’t go into the fight thinking ‘this is how I’m going to box.’ I just know what it takes to win.

“In my heart of hearts, I’ll do whatever I have to do to win and that’s my main priority. To do whatever it takes to win the fight. The best strategy to have is finding a way to win, rather than a way I’m going to box, I’m just there to win.”
