Anthony Joshua’s future: Eddie Hearn provides big update
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has provided an update on the future of star heavyweight Anthony Joshua.
Over the course of the last decade or so, few heavyweights have had as much star power as Anthony Joshua. While he may not have always been sitting at the top of the mountain, he certainly knows how to grab the attention of the masses – to the point where he has made millions, and has sold out stadiums many times over. However, after his recent defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois, there are more than a few questions about his future.
For Anthony Joshua, it feels like the one remaining big fight for him is a very obvious one: Tyson Fury. These two warriors have been dancing around the idea of fighting for literally years now, and although it won’t have the same cultural impact as it would’ve back in the day, you just know that this would sell out Wembley Stadium ten times over.
Alas, with Fury seemingly ‘retired’, Anthony Joshua needs to have a look at the terrain and assess other potential options. In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn decided to provide an update on how things are looking as we await further news on AJ’s return bout.
Eddie Hearn’s update on Anthony Joshua’s future
“He’ll only fight once this year,” Hearn told ESPN. “He’ll be good to go in the middle of September, and by then, we will know for sure if Fury is going to return or not. But [Joshua’s opponent] will also depend on what happens in the [Daniel] Dubois vs. Usyk fight. I like our spot in that respect, and if none of them are available, we’re going to fight someone else.”
“I just don’t think he’ll be able to leave it alone,” Hearn said. “You know why? Because he’s not declining. He’s still at the peak of his powers and it’s very difficult to walk away from a fight like Anthony Joshua when you’ve still got it. And that’s why I believe it’ll happen.”
