Brian Mendoza Believes He’s A Bigger Puncher Than Tim Tszyu
Brian Mendoza is confident he has all the tools to beat Tim Tszyu this weekend.
Mendoza is set to face Tszyu in Australia for the WBO light middleweight title. Tszyu was originally the interim champ, but once Jermell Charlo fought Canelo Alvarez, he was stripped and Tszyu was promoted to the undisputed champ.
That adds to the stake of the fight but even with that, Brian Mendoza is still confident anyways. He knows his power will be too much for Tszyu and he expects to get the KO win.
โMe [Iโm the bigger puncher in this fight]. Based on my resume and what Iโve done, I have more one-punch knockouts. Once [Tszyu] gets you, heโs a good finisher and everything, but just based on the facts that I have more explosive shots,โ Mendoza said during a press conference this week (h/t BoxingScene).
“The thing about me. I have power, but Iโm not just a power puncher. I donโt go in there trying to look for one shot,” Mendoza continued. “Iโll hurt you for 12 rounds โฆ Iโm even content with that. I do look for the knockout. I do want to put on a big show. I think thatโs why I even got called here to this beautiful country in the first place for this title fight. But Iโm in there to put on punishment for 12 rounds.โ
Brian Mendoza knows he fights his heart out every single time so he won’t have to worry about not giving everything he has. But, he says he has a chip on his shoulder as people are writing him off and he’s eager to prove them wrong.
โI want to take out everybody in my division as well. Itโs part of the game, and thatโs why I say once we go in there, that switch flips, and itโs war. Weโre aiming for the same goal, and only one can come out on top,โ said Mendoza.ย “I have that chip on my shoulder, and itโs just no pressure. Iโve already tasted that defeat, and I know I donโt ever want that again. So hunger is really what makes a difference here, and I feel like thatโs what adds to my hunger more than anyone else.โ
Do you think Brian Mendoza will beat Tim Tszyu?
