Keith Thurman: Without Me, The Welterweight Division Has Been ‘Wack’

Keith Thurman

The welterweight division in boxing has been wack according to Keith Thurman…until now.

Thurman returns to action on Saturday night when he takes on former junior welterweight champion Mario Barrios.

It will be Thurman’s first fight in almost three years following his split decision defeat to Manny Pacquiao back in July 2019.

Injuries would take its toll on Thurman once again as he remained sidelined until now. Saturday’s fight will be just his third since March 2017.

But now that he’s healthy and ready to return, Thurman believes the welterweight division is finally back (via Michael Benson).

“Keith Thurman is back. The welterweight division is back, without me it’s been wack,” Thurman said. “I bring the most exciting fights at 147lbs. With a belt, without the belt, Keith Thurman is the champion of today, period.”

While many could argue Thurman is past it, he has only lost once and he certainly delivered some of the most exciting fights that saw him become the WBA and WBC welterweight champion at one point.

Saturday night will be a good indicator of where Thurman stands — especially as he is setting his sights on Terence Crawford.
