Callum Smith vs. Lenin Castillo Added To Joshua-Usyk Undercard

Callum Smith

Callum Smith will return to the ring on September 25 against Lenin Castillo on the Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk undercard.

Boxingscene.com was the first to report the news of the fight booking. Snith vs. Castillo will fight at 175-pound limit and will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is expected to be broadcast by Sky Sports Box Office during a pay-per-view broadcast in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It’s uncertain if it will be a 10-round fight or a 12-round WBC elimination match.

Callum Smith (27-1) has not fought since he suffered a decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in December. With the decision loss, Smith lost his WBA (Super) and The Ring super-middleweight champion. The fight was also for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title. Smith also holds notable wins over John Ryder, Nieky Holzken, Rocky Fielding, and George Groves.

This fight on September 25 will also serve as Smith’s light heavyweight debut, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

Lenin Castillo (21-3-1) last fought in July where he stopped Ronald Gonzalez after the fourth round of their scheduled 10-rounder. Gonzalez suffered an injury in the first round and couldn’t get off the stool after the fourth. The bout also served as his return from a 21-month layoff following his loss to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

The main event of the card sees Anthony Joshua defending his heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk.

Who do you think will win, Callum Smith or Lenin Castillo?
