Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders Targeted For AT&T Stadium With Full Capacity

Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders will reportedly take place at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

In recent months, the top fights have been taking place in Texas or Florida with a reduced crowd, but still in front of fans. However, according to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, the Alvarez vs. Saunders title fight will take place at AT&T stadium and they have been given the approval to have a full capacity crowd. Of course, that means they can have up to 100,000 fans in the stadium for the fight.

Sources: The Canelo Alvarez-Billy Joe Saunders super middleweight title unification will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Eddie Hearn and Canelo can use the full capacity of the stadium if they wish. Stadium holds over 100,000 when expanded.

Canelo Alvarez enters this fight coming off a dominant third-round win over Avni Yildrim back in February. Before that, he earned a decision win over Callum Smith in December of 2020 in his first fight in over a year after he knocked out Sergey Kovalev to win the WBO light heavyweight title.

Billy Joe Saunders, meanwhile, is 30-0 and coming off a decision win over Martin Murray to retain his WBO super middleweight title. In his career, the Englishman also holds notable wins Chris Eubank Jr., Artur Akavov, and David Lemieux among others.

Entering the fight, many expect Alvarez to win once again, but this is a closer fight than his past two fights. Saunders is also preparing for a massive upset win.

“This will be one of the biggest upsets in British boxing history,” Saunders told A&B on DAZN. “It will be the biggest upset, in fact. I will be doing this for every gipsy. English, Irish, Scotch, Welsh, American, you name it. That’s what I’m doing this for. We’re sticking together.”
