Chris Eubank Jr wants Canelo Alvarez fight, says promoter

Chris Eubank Jr, Conor Benn

According to Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom, Chris Eubank Jr is still interested in trying to make a fight happen between himself and Canelo Alvarez.

This weekend, Chris Eubank Jr faces a blockbuster grudge match against Conor Benn. It is a fight that has been years in the making and while it seemed as if it wouldn’t come to fruition following Benn’s previous doping violation, we’re now at the point where we sit just a few days away from fight night. Of course, both men have expectations for themselves that extend far beyond Saturday, as they push for bouts against some of the biggest names in the sport.

For Chris Eubank Jr especially, that includes Canelo Alvarez. It’s a fight that has been a long time coming in the eyes of boxing fans and while Chris has had his fair share of setbacks, the belief is that he’ll put himself in line for this opportunity if he can get through Benn in a decisive manner.

In a recent interview, Ben Shalom spoke about Chris Eubank Jr vs Canelo Alvarez and the likelihood of it happening.

Chris Eubank Jr wants Canelo Alvarez fight

“I think it’s realistic,” Boxxer promoter and CEO Ben Shalom told Sky Sports. “I think for Chris it makes sense.

“I can’t see Conor Benn against Canelo personally – maybe that’s where Turki is giving away really who he thinks perhaps might win this fight.

“Eubank against Canelo is the fight Chris wants. This is a two-fight deal against Conor Benn, you’d expect one to happen now and one possibly in October, and then it’s the big one against Canelo.

“That will ultimately be the dream fight we want and that’s a fight His Excellency (Turki Alalshikh) can make as well, so for Chris that’s certainly the next opponent we want.”
