Chris Eubank Jr reiterates desire to fight Canelo Alvarez in superfight
Following his dramatic win over rival Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Jr has made it crystal clear that he is interested in battling it out with Canelo Alvarez.
Earlier this year, Chris Eubank Jr finally stepped into the ring to fight Conor Benn after years of trash talk between the two. While Chris was seen by many as the favorite, the unpredictable nature of Benn’s style meant that it was never going to be a sure thing. Alas, what we wound up with was a true Fight of the Year contender, with Benn more than being able to hold his own in the middle of the ring.
Alas, while it was a great effort, Chris Eubank Jr was the one who had his hand raised after the scorecards were read. He also seemed to be on the verge of stopping Benn late in the bout, but Conor showed tremendous heart in order to battle through it.
Ever since then, the big question has also been a very simple one: what’s next? Everybody seems to want to see the rematch, but it feels like there will probably be a bit of time between now and it actually happening.
In a recent interview, Chris Eubank Jr was asked about the possibility of facing Canelo Alvarez, who is scheduled to take on Terence Crawford in September.
Chris Eubank Jr wants Canelo Alvarez
“That is another stadium filler, absolutely,” said Eubank Jr. “Wembley, Tottenham, any one of the large football stadiums in the UK will be filled for a fight like that.
“He is an opponent I’ve been looking at for many years now. And the fans would love to see that. So 100 per cent that’s a name in my line of sight. “And we will be doing whatever we can to secure that fight in the future.”
