Chris Eubank Jr. Says Conor Benn ‘Escaped’ His Beating ‘For Now’

Chris Eubank Jr. is disappointed that he won’t get the chance to fight Conor Benn on Saturday

Eubank Jr. and Benn were set to headline a pay-per-view card from London, England in a highly-anticipated bout but it will no longer come to fruition. Benn failed a drug test on fight week and the commission wouldn’t allow the bout to go on which was disappointing news for Eubank Jr. who wanted to put a beating on Benn.

โ€œConor got caught using an illegal substance, so the fight is off,โ€ Eubank Jr. said on his social media accounts. โ€œCanโ€™t believe it. I really [apologize] to the fans & everyone that bought tickets, traveled & booked hotels, this should not [have] happened. He has escaped his schoolingโ€ฆ for now.โ€

It is disappointing news for the fight to not happen as Eddie Hearn even wanted it to take place.

โ€œLook, firstly there is currently no reason โ€“ in terms of suspension or, you know, violations โ€“ that the fight should not take place,” Hearn said. “So, the Board actually donโ€™t โ€“ you remember a situation with Billy Joe Saunders, where he actually tested positive with VADA ahead of the [Demetrius] Andrade fight [four years ago]. The Board did not suspend him because they donโ€™t recognize VADA, but Massachusetts did [deny Saundersโ€™ license application]. So, thereโ€™s a complicated process to go through. Eubank-Benn is the fight, ultimately. If that fight doesnโ€™t take place nor will the show. But, you know, we have to see where we go from here, because if the Board arenโ€™t suspending Conor Benn โ€“ and they wonโ€™t suspended Conor Benn, they donโ€™t have the right to under their jurisdiction under with the tests that heโ€™s been passing with UKAD โ€“ then, if theyโ€™re not allowing the fight, when do they allow the fight?

โ€œYou know, are we saying thereโ€™s a delay while you wanna have a hearing and we postpone the fight for two weeks, three weeks, four weeks? Youโ€™re not gonna suspend Conor Benn, so at some point, the fight is going to take place,” Hearn continued. “So, you know, itโ€™s fresh at the moment. And Iโ€™m happy to come on here and give everyone as much news as I can. But at the same time, thereโ€™s a process that will be undertook.โ€

As of right now, however, the fight is off and whether or not Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn will be matched up again is uncertain.

Who do you think would’ve won, Chris Eubank Jr. or Conor Benn?
