Conor Benn calls for showdown with Shakur Stevenson
British boxer Conor Benn has called for a showdown with Shakur Stevenson in the wake of his defeat at the hands of Chris Eubank Jr.
Heading into his bout with Chris Eubank Jr, there were plenty of questions surrounding the future of Conor Benn. While he’d had a solid enough career, the doping violation really hurt him and his reputation. Beyond that, a lot of people thought he was simply too small to hang in there with Eubank Jr. In the end, though, he proved the masses wrong, taking his bitter rival to the limit in an absolutely thrilling encounter.
While he wasn’t quite able to pick up the victory, Conor Benn certainly earned the respect of the masses. Plus, at the age of just 28, it certainly feels as if he’s got a lot left in the tank at the elite level – depending on who he comes up against, of course.
There have been a few ideas floating around when it comes to who Conor Benn should face next. In a recent post on social media, he called his shot: a meeting with Shakur Stevenson.
Conor Benn wants Shakur Stevenson
“You wanna do it next @shakurstevenson? Let’s run it. No cheap talk.”
Many will continue to question whether or not he’s earned the right to receive this kind of opportunity. Alas, whether you love him or you hate him, nobody can deny that Conor Benn is a household name now. He may need a win or two first before getting an assignment of this magnitude, but he’s clearly more than willing to put the work in.
In pro wrestling terms, perhaps this can serve as the beginning of a babyface turn for him. Either way, he’s on the map, and we don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon.
