Anthony Joshua’s future: Eddie Hearn provides update
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has provided an update on the future of Anthony Joshua.
As we know, Anthony Joshua is one of the most successful heavyweight boxers of his generation. With that being said, his knockout loss at the hands of Daniel Dubois has really set him back in the eyes of the public. Now, it’s not quite clear as to what his next move will be.
Some suggested that we’ll see Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul, but ‘The Problem Child’ will instead face Gervonta Davis is an exhibition match later this year.
In a recent podcast appearance, Eddie Hearn provided an update on what could be next for Anthony Joshua as he heads into the twilight of his career.
Eddie Hearn provides Anthony Joshua update
“As the time ticks by, it’s probably more likely that we see [Anthony Joshua] in the ring again for a January/February date if I’m honest. I don’t think there’s any value in us saying it will be in December.”
“It was well publicised about the meetings that took place in Ghana over the last couple of weeks,” Hearn said. “There has been an offer to do a fight there and I think it would be incredible for AJ to fight in Africa. However, when you are doing site deals a lot of it depends on when the host wants to stage the show.”
“I don’t think there’s a rush, albeit he has been out of the ring for almost a year now. Any fight he has next though is likely to be a warm-up fight for that ‘roll the dice’ fight.”
“We hope, in an ideal world, that is Tyson Fury. If not, it will be against one of the top five heavyweights.”
“Every AJ event is a massive event… these big fights take time. A win in early 2026 sets up that blockbuster, and he knows it.”
