Dillian Whyte Not Interested In Rematching Jermaine Franklin: ‘I Won Clearly, So Why Would I Consider A Rematch?’
Dillian Whyte doesn’t see a need in rematching Jermaine Franklin.
Whyte and Franklin fought on Saturday in what many viewed as a tune-up fight for Whyte to get back into the win column. Yet, it was far from that as it was a very competitive fight, and when the final bell rang, some thought Franklin did enough to win.
However, it was Whyte winning by majority decision and since then, Franklin has called for a rematch, but the Brit doesn’t think that is necessary.
โWhy you keep getting in about this rematch?,โ Whyte said after the fight. โAre you part of Jermaine Franklinโs team? So, stop talkinโ sh*t about rematching. Relax, man. Listen, it was a fight. How much close fights have there been in boxing? Do you like say, โOh, this guy should have a rematch, have a rematch.โ Youโre just talkinโ sh*t, man. Relax. It was a close fight. I won clearly, so why would I consider a rematch?โ
Dillian Whyte did acknowledge that Jermaine Franklin is a good fighter but says there are levels to this which is why he won. But, he believes Franklin is a top-10, top-15 heavyweight and will have success in his career.
โHeโs a good fighter, but you know, like I said, thereโs levels,โ said Whyte. โYou know, like I said, I know exactly what I needed to do. I knew he had hand speed, pedigree and that. But I know exactly, with my experience, what I need to do to get the victory. And thatโs what I said. I know when I need to turn it on and when I need to obviously box and what I need to do. Obviously, heโs definitely top 15, top 10, top 15.โ
With Whyte getting his hand raised, he could be in line for a big fight like Anthony Joshua next, but for him, he’s just glad to be back in the win column.
Would you like to see a rematch between Dillian Whyte and Jermaine Franklin?
