Eddie Hearn: Deontay Wilder Not A Top Four Heavyweight, Lacks Resume

Hearn

As far as Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is concerned, Deontay Wilder is not among the top four heavyweights in boxing.

Wilder will look to become a two-time WBC heavyweight champion when he clashes with Tyson Fury next month in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua — who was expected to face the winner of the trilogy — lost his heavyweight titles after getting outclassed by Oleksandr Usyk over 12 rounds this past weekend.

While Joshua is more than likely to have a rematch with Usyk next, many in the boxing world believe it’s the ideal time for him to face Wilder.

Joshua and Wilder were initially expected to have a title unification clash and certainly have history.

But despite that, Hearn doesn’t rate the American all that highly — especially when it comes to his resume.

“Other than Ortiz, which isn’t even a standout win in my opinion, who has Wilder ever beaten?” Hearn asked iFL TV (via Michael Benson). “You can’t put Wilder in bracket of Fury, Usyk, AJ, Whyte. You can’t. He doesn’t have the résumé.”

While one can argue that Wilder is above Dillian Whyte, it’s certainly hard to make the case for him to be above any of Fury, Joshua and Usyk in the top three — especially if he ends up losing the trilogy next month.
