Jermell Charlo Claims Gervonta Davis Is The Face Of Boxing

Gervonta Davis

Jermell Charlo believes Gervonta Davis is the face of boxing.

Ahead of Davis’ last fight against Ryan Garcia, both men said whoever won would become the face of boxing. Both have massive followings and have backed it up with their ability but it was Davis who won by stoppage.

Although boxing still has the likes of Tyson Fury, Canelo Alvarez, and Errol Spence Jr. among others, Charlo thinks Davis has cemented his case as the face of boxing.

“America’s got the best fighters in the world in the last few years,” Charlo told former NBA forward Stephen Jackson in a recent episode of Fight Towns on Showtime Sports (h/t BoxingScene). “Our GOAT (Greatest of All Time) was [Muhammad] Ali. Our now GOAT is [Floyd] Mayweather.  How do you beat them? Our era’s different. I think, truly, right now, though, the face of boxing gotta be, probably, Gervonta Davis, to me. Right now, if you think about who really conquered the new world, selling out every fight, he performing well. Everybody wants to stay focused on the negativity, but he’s grinding his ass off.”

The fight against Ryan Garcia reportedly sold over one million pay-per-view buys and it was Davis’ sixth straight fight headlining a pay-per-view bout. With that, he has proven he can sell and fans tune in to watch him fight as many believe he is an exciting fighter.

However, outside of the ring, Gervonta Davis has had problems staying outside of trouble. Davis is currently in jail serving the remainder of his three-month sentence after he violated the terms of his house arrest stemming from a hit-and-run crash that injured four people in 2020. With that, he does not have his next fight booked but when it does, it will be another high-profile matchup.

Do you agree with Jermell Charlo that Gervonta Davis is the face of boxing?
