Naoya Inoue survives scare to maintain perfect record

Naoya Inoue

Naoya Inoue, better known as ‘The Monster’, survived an early scare against Ramon Cardenas to pick up the win and extend his record in professional boxing to 30-0.

For the longest time, Naoya Inoue has been seen as one of boxing’s finest. He is easily one of the best in the world in the pound for pound rankings and whenever he steps into the ring, you just know you’re going to get fireworks. That was exactly what happened when he battled it out with Ramon Cardenas on Sunday, serving as the final big fight of an incredibly mixed weekend of boxing.

Early in the fight, Cardenas shocked a lot of people by actually sending Naoya Inoue to the canvas. It’s happened before to the Japanese sensation, but there was still a sense of disbelief, with many wondering whether or not this could lead him down the path of his first pro loss.

Alas, Naoya Inoue was never going to let that happen.

Naoya Inoue is still the man

The lighter weight classes have slowly but surely been earning more respect from people as the years have gone on, and rightfully so – but Naoya Inoue is a rare example of a boxer who truly transcends weight. What he is achieved is out of this world and at the age of just 32, it feels like he still has a lot left in the tank.

We can’t know that for sure, but there are no signs that he’s slowing down just yet. There are also a lot of interesting opponents out there for him and given his ability to cross over from Japanese superstardom to the United States, you’d have to think a lot of the bigger names will be looking at the possible weight cut and thinking that they could go down there and cause him some problems.

Either way, let’s just take some time to appreciate what we’ve got: a bonafide superstar.
