Opponent Revealed For Tyson Fury’s ESPN Debut
Tyson Fury’s debut on ESPN has been made official.
“The Gypsy King” will face German prospect Tom Schwarz (24-0, 16 KOs) on June 15. ESPN reports the fight takes place from the United States and will broadcast on ESPN+. Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs), boxing’s lineal heavyweight champion, recently signed with ESPN and Top Rank Boxing.
A location and venue for the contest has not yet been made official. Top Rank has reserved a date at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, and has also put in a request with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Top Rank’s request is on the agenda for the commission’s March 27 meeting.
It’s also possible that the fight takes place from an MGM Resorts International property in Vegas as well. The two venues being discussed are the MGM Grand Garden Arena or the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Fury hasn’t fought since his December split draw against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KOs).
The pair put on one of the most entertaining boxing fights of the year. After going all 12 rounds, the Englishman seemingly outboxed the WBC champion, however, Wilder scored the only two knockdowns of the fight.
A rematch was immediately in the works after the contest, but with Wilder recently signing with Showtime Boxing, and Fury now with ESPN, there’s no telling whether or not the awaited rematch will actually happen.
