Possible Next Opponent for Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury Walk Out

With talks between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk breaking down, if the WBC champion is to appear in the ring again, it is likely to come against a new opponent now.

The unbeaten heavyweight may have to wait a little longer to unify the four major belts in the division. Here are three men Fury could face before getting a shot at the WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO crowns.

Anthony Joshua

Before Anthony Joshua lost to Usyk in 2021, he was on course to face Fury in what would have been a huge all-British clash. The former world champion gets the chance to get his career back on track when he faces Jermaine Franklin.

Those placing Anthony Joshua bets on the upcoming fight in London can back the British boxer at -1400. AJ will be looking to deliver a big performance that puts him back in the mix for a world title shot against either Fury or Usyk. Franklin is +750 in the boxing bets market to cause a big upset in the biggest fight of his career. Joshua has stated that should he lose to the American, he will retire from the sport.

Joe Joyce

Despite being 37 years old, Joe Joyce is still considered a relative newcomer at the highest level in the heavyweight division. His reputation has grown considerably over the last 12 months, with big wins coming over Christian Hammer and Joseph Parker. The latter was a stoppage in the 11th round, which was the first time the former world champion had been beaten inside 12 rounds.

Joyce is the WBO interim champion, and he is set to defend that belt against Zhang Zhilei in London in April. Should he come through that fight with a victory, his calls for a fight with Fury are likely to get louder.

The British boxer has won 14 of his 15 fights by stoppage. Like Fury, he is under Frank Warren’s promotion body, which means a fight between the two men would easily be made.

Deontay Wilder

Fury and Deontay Wilder have already been involved in a thrilling trilogy, with Fury winning two of those fights and the first contest ending in a draw. However, despite those results, it’s still a bout that would likely appeal to Fury, as Wilder remains one of the biggest names in the USA.

Wilder returned to the ring last October for his first fight in 12 months. The Bronze Bomber showcased his impressive power, knocking out Robert Helenius in the first round. The former WBC champion is 37 years old now, but he has no plans for retirement just yet.

In the first of their three fights, Wilder had a lot of success against Fury. He floored the British boxer in the 12th round where he looked on course for victory before the Gypsy King miraculously got up just before the referee’s 10 count. The American will feel he has unfinished business with his rival.

Fury’s legacy in the heavyweight division is strong but it is likely there is room for another couple of chapters in there, including a fight with one of the above three boxers in 2023.
