Regis Prograis Explains Why He Favors Josh Taylor To Beat Teofimo Lopez

Regis Prograis, Josh Taylor

Regis Prograis expects Josh Taylor to defeat Teofimo Lopez when the two fight on June 10 in New York City.

The fight came as a surprise given the fact many thought Taylor would rematch Jack Catterall. But, that fight didn’t happen and the WBO then ordered the Lopez fight to happen and Prograis doesn’t think it will go well for Lopez.

“Taylor is big, tall, and I think he’s mentally strong,” Prograis told ESNews. “I think style-wise Teo is better, but I think Taylor’s too big, too aggressive. Taylor talks a lot of s**t. He’s gonna get in [Lopez’s] head for sure.”

Currently, Taylor is a -148 favorite while Lopez is a +116 underdog, so the oddsmakers do favor Taylor to get his hand raised. Prograis also is well-aware of both of them as Taylor beat him by a majority decision in 2019 in a controversial decision, and Prograis has wanted a rematch while he has also taken shots at Lopez.

“I want my get back, but right now, I feel like I’m the man in the division,” Prograis said back in November. “I do want to fight him again, but I do feel I’m better than him. We’ll see what happens. I’ve been feeling like that.  This is no surprise. I told you, this is no surprise. I feel like I’m the best at 140. I’ve been feeling like that.

“It’s sad in boxing where you take a loss, and I still feel like I won the fight, but you take a loss, and people sweep you under the rug,” Prograis added. “It’s like I had to climb my way out of boxing hell, and I’m back here. For me, it’s not a surprise. I told you that it’s not a surprise. I work my a** off every single day for three years to get back. To answer your question, if the (Taylor) fight presents itself, yeah, I’ll definitely be for sure.”

Regis Prograis (28-1) is coming off a KO win over Jose Zepeda to win the WBC light welterweight title. He’s currently on a four-fight winning streak with his other wins over Tyrone McKenna, Ivan Redkach, and Juan Heraldez.
