Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez Set For June 10 In New York City

Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez will be fighting in June.

Taylor is the current WBO junior welterweight champion and will defend his belt against Lopez on June 10 at either Madison Square Garden or the Hulu Theater at MSG, BoxingScene.com reported. The reason why it is not known if it will be at MSG or the smaller Hulu Theater is due to the fact the availability is uncertain as it depends on if the New York Rangers or New York Knicks are still in the playoffs.

Lopez also said he was open to going to Scotland to face Taylor but that won’t happen. Instead, he will get the hometown fight as he looks to become a multi-division champion.

Josh Taylor (19-0) retained his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring light welterweight titles. Yet, against Lopez, he will only be putting up his WBO and The Ring light welterweight titles. Last time out, Taylor is coming off a split decision win over Jack Catterall in a very controversial fight last February and many thought a rematch would be next.

In his career, Taylor holds notable wins over Jose Ramirez, Regis Prograis, Ivan Baranchyk, Apinun Khongsong, Ryan Martin, and Viktor Pistol among others.

Teofimo Lopez (18-1) picked up a split decision win over Sandor Martin last time out in a fight he was picked up in the corner questioning if he still has it. Prior to that, he TKO’d Pedro Campa in his first fight at 140lbs after losing his title to George Kambosos Jr. by split decision.

Lopez became the unified lightweight champion with an upset win over Vasyl Lomachenko in October 2020. In his career, he holds notable wins over Richard Commey, Edis Tatli, and Masayoshi Nakatani among others.
