Roy Jones Jr. Says Tyson Fury’s Performance Against Francis Ngannou Doesn’t Mean Oleksandr Usyk Will Beat Him

Tyson Fury Walk Out

Roy Jones Jr. knows Tyson Fury didn’t look like himself against Francis Ngannou.

Fury picked up a hard-fought split decision win over Ngannou on Saturday in Saudi Arabia. In the fight, Fury was dropped and when the final bell rang, many thought Ngannoy won, but it was Fury who got the win.

According to Roy Jones Jr., he believes Tyson Fury was in a no-win situation and that is exactly what happened on Saturday.

“Tyson Fury prepared as though he was fighting an MMA fighter who has no boxing experience,” Jones Jr. said to SecondsOut (h/t BoxingScene). “He didn’t come out there prepared to fight an Usyk-type guy or a guy like Ngannou who had everything to gain and nothing to lose. Tyson had everything to lose and nothing to gain, and guess what happened? He lost ’cause even in winning, he lost ’cause he didn’t look good. He had everything to lose, nothing in it to gain.”

Although Tyson Fury did get the win, many critics are now thinking Oleksandr Usyk will beat him. However, Roy Jones Jr. warns people that just because Fury didn’t look like himself, doesn’t mean that Usyk will win when they fight in February.

“His head is where it always is,” Jones Jr. said. “When he has a bad performance, he comes back and makes up for it with a beautiful performance. So, if they think that means that Usyk’s gonna beat him, they got another thought coming. That don’t mean that. He didn’t prepare like he was preparing to fight Oleksandr Usyk. He prepared like he was fighting a guy who has no experience in boxing.”

There’s no question that after Tyson Fury’s performance, the fight against Oleksandr Usyk is now closer than people thought.
