Ryan Garcia And Luke Campbell Book Title Fight

It has been confirmed that Ryan Garcia (20-0, 17 KO) and Luke Campbell (20-3, 16KO) will meet later this year a lightweight fight for the interim WBC strap. The contest is expected to take place mid to late November. The bout was set to go to a purse bid today. However, at the last minute, the two parties reached an agreement.

“We have finally reached an agreement, just to give everybody a bit of clarity. We had some issues around the contract that we sent to Golden Boy that they weren’t happy with. They are well within their rights to do that, of course. We have been working it out; we only had 24 hours to do it, but we are in agreement now. The fight will take place in America,” Campbell’s promoter Eddie Hearn said.

“From Campbell’s sides, I have spoken to Luke Campbell, and he is very happy with the deal, and we are proceeding with the challenge.”

Matchroom and Golden Boy had been locked in negotiations for over a month. After it appeared, no progress was being made the WBC called for a purse bid to resolve the issue. This intervention seems to have helped spur the two sides on to reach a deal.

“We know everybody is excited because of the amount of people inquiring about the fight, and we have to come to a deal, and we’re are looking forward to a very, very good fight that is going to excite the fans,’ said Golden Boy’s Roberto Diaz.

Garcia last fought in February, when he made short of work of Francisco Fonseca. He stopped the 26-year-old in the first round, via a jaw-dropping knockout. Campbell will represent a significant step up in the class for Garcia.

The 32-year-old Englishman is a 2012 Olympic gold medalist and two-time lightweight world title challenger. The Hull native’s most recent outing took place against Vasyl Lomachenko in August 2019, with Campbell losing the fight via unanimous decision.

Fans have been wanting to see Garcia tested in a tough fight, and now it appears they have got their wish. There will no doubt be plenty of interest in the buildup to this matchup between two of the world’s top lightweights.
