Ryan Garcia suffers upset loss to Rolly Romero in Times Square

Ryan Garcia suffered an upset loss to Rolly Romero last night in the main event of the blockbuster Times Square card.
Heading into this fight, Ryan Garcia was expected to defeat Rolly Romero and get his career back on track following the doping scandal after his Devin Haney fight. In the end, though, we were left with more questions than answers. Romero, against all odds, defeated Garcia and earned a unanimous decision with scores of 115-112, 115-112 and 118-109.
Ryan Garcia was even dropped early on in the fight and, in truth, he never really seemed like he was causing Rolly too many problems. Romero was patient, he chose his shots well, and he was able to overwhelm ‘King’.
After the fight, Ryan Garcia was fairly humble in defeat.
Ryan Garcia responds to defeat
“He fought a good fight; caught me early. No excuses, man. Congrats to him – he did a great job,” Garcia said.
“A whole year took a lot of my body physically and mentally,” Garcia said, adding that he would now go “back to the drawing board”.

For Ryan Garcia, this will raise a million and one questions regarding his future. A lot of people are eager to see him take part in a rematch with Devin Haney, who won his fight last night – albeit in fairly boring fashion.
It’s safe to say that after both of their performances, the interest levels aren’t exactly at an all-time ihgh to see them run it back.
In terms of the event itself, it was certainly a spectacle – but it didn’t deliver in the way that many would’ve hoped. It almost certainly won’t be the last novelty event of this kind that we see, but perhaps it’ll be in a different setting next time. Either way, it was noteworthy.
