Shawn Porter Expects To Fight The Winner Of Spence-Garcia

Shawn Porter

Former two-time welterweight world champion Shawn Porter expects another title shot against the winner of his two former foes Errol Spence and Danny Garcia. Spence and Garcia are expected to square off on in a Fox Sports PPV main event on November 21 at a location to be determined.

Porter fell short in his bid to unify the welterweight division against Spence last year. Both men went toe-to-toe for 12 rounds in one of the best fights 2019 had to offer. Ultimately, it was ‘The Truth’ who emerged victorious by way of the judge’s scorecards. Two judges scored the fight 116-111 in favour of Spence and the other had Porter winning 115-112.

‘Showtime’ had better luck when he fought against Garcia a year prior to his bout against Spence. Porter picked up a unanimous decision win and the WBC welterweight belt in the process.

In a recent interview with Boxing Scene Porter revealed Premier Boxing Champions CEO Al Haymon has assured he will face the winner of the eagerly anticipated bout.

“I think the conversation remains the same (with Haymon),” Porter said. “The conversation is me fighting the winner of Errol Spence Jr. and Danny Garcia. I don’t think that’s something Al Haymon is looking to change and or looking forward to changing. That’s what I’m being told, that I get the winner.”

“For me, you can’t go wrong either way,” Porter said. “I can fight either guy, Errol Spence or Danny Garcia, and it’s a big fight. So I am definitely going to be in the front row (on Nov. 21) watching intently.”

As for the fight itself Porter is struggling to see anything but Spence emerging victorious against Garcia.

This is not a knockout win for Errol Spence. I can see Danny Garcia pulling off some rounds, but I think it will be a unanimous decision for Errol Spence,” Porter said. “I think he’s in good enough health to get back in the ring (following a car accident last October). I think it’s Errol Spence’s fight.”
