WBC Requests More Information From Ryan Garcia
The WBC has requested more information from Ryan Garciaย regarding his failed drug tests for his fight with Devin Haney.
Garcia pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent boxing memory when he defeated Haney by decision. However, after the fight, it was revealed he tested positive for ostarine.
Recently, however, his team revealed they found the supplement that was contaminated with ostarine but still no decision has been made by the WBC.
Now, in a statement, the WBC is asking Garcia for more information regarding the positive test.
โAs it has been widely publicized around the world,โ read the statement from the WBC (via BoxingScene), โthe contents of Ryan Garciaโs โAโ and โBโ sample containers collected on April 19, and April 20, 2024, yielded adverse analytical findings for Ostarine. Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator (โSARMโ). Ostarine and all SARMs are banned substances at all times under the WBC Clean Boxing Program.
โUpon receiving the notification of the Adverse Findings, the WBC immediately started its Results Management Process under the governing WBC CBPโs Testing and Results Management Guidelines. Under that process, the WBC notified Mr. Garcia of the adverse findings, provided him with information about his right to witness the opening of the โBโ sample container, and to have the contents of the โBโ sample container tested. The โBโ sample containersโ contents also yielded adverse analytical findings for Ostarine.
โIn addition, the WBCโs Result Management Unitโs notification to Mr. Garcia requested available information and/or documents to assist the Unitโs determination of the circumstances leading or reasonably related to the adverse findings. The WBC Results Management Unit anticipates receiving the available information requested toward the end of June.
โIn the meantime, the WBC has continued to investigate the pharmacological characteristics of Ostarine, the details of the testsโ results that led to the adverse findings, and any other explanation that might relate to the adverse findings. The WBC will continue to provide updates of the process it is undertaking as additional information becomes available.โ
Currently, Ryan Garcia’s win over Devin Haney is still standing, but whether or not that will be the case is to be seen.
