Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull Betting Preview
One thing that we should always be careful of in life is complacency. It’s so easy to take your eye off the ball and, subsequently, fall short of the mark. On May 3rd, on a big weekend for the nation of Mexico, Canelo Alvarez will be expected to deliver when he locks horns with William Scull.
So whether you’re having a look at sports betting reviews: https://www.actionnetwork.com/online-sports-betting/reviews/espn-bet or you’re here to just find out a bit more about both fighters, it’s time to take a deeper look at how this bout could play out.
The big problem for Canelo is a simple one: all eyes are on September. When we hit the ninth month of the year, the overwhelming expectation is that we will see the Mexican sensation go head to head with none other than Terence Crawford. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Crawford is considered by many to be the pound-for-pound best boxer on the planet today.
If he isn’t, well, then at the very least, he’s in the top two or three. He has long since felt as if he can take on someone of Canelo’s stature and after what he did to Errol Spence Jr, who can deny him? He has earned the opportunity to at least try, and he’ll likely be able to do so in around five months’ time.
But before all that, we need to turn our attention to William Scull. This is a man who is undefeated at 23-0 and while he may be 32 years of age, that doesn’t mean he should be taken lightly. In fact, if anything, it’s quite the opposite. He is heading into a fight where he has nothing to lose and if we know one thing about boxing, it’s that an opponent with nothing to lose is as dangerous as anyone you could ever hope to face.
With his last finish coming more than three years ago, you could argue that fans are waiting to see Canelo Alvarez make a real statement. Alas, given his star power and what he’s already achieved in his career, we’d say he has earned the right to try and win a fight in whatever manner he pleases.
As for William Scull, he has 14 decisions and nine knockouts to his name. Ironically enough, his last TKO/KO win came in the same month as Canelo, back in November 2021. So, if we’re reading between the lines, that means we probably shouldn’t expect to see anyone staring up at the lights by the end of this fight.
What we do expect, though, is a Canelo Alvarez victory. He has been in this position enough times to know how and when to avoid risk and that is precisely what he is going to do. He will manage the resources he has in front of him and he will execute the perfect game plan (or near enough), setting us up for the Crawford fight that we’re all waiting to see.
Official prediction: Canelo Alvarez defeats William Scull via unanimous decision
