2015 Texas Preview

Texas has always been a team with the ability to recruit whoever it wanted, even with Texas A&M and others picking away a player here and a star prospect there, there hasn’t been an issue for Texas getting top-shelf talent to sign.

Back in the day, Texas was able to get every No.1 Prospect it liked however, those days are gone. In order to secure the No.1 prospects they are having to work for it and there are two simple reasons for this…

Baylor. TCU.

Strong found himself thrown is a tough situation when he first stepped into the job. With how things have slipped from the Texas of past, Strong made sure in his actions that everyone knew that playtime was over.

Under Brown’s watch, Texas was always able to get who they liked, choosing the talent with a brain over the “me play football” type. This isn’t always a benefit as sometimes you need those guys to fill out a top-ranking team that Texas just wasn’t.

Strong had a clear outline of what he wanted from a player. his mantra seemed to be it’s my way or the highway. After the last season, Strong let nine players go, cleaning out a fresh slate setting the tone for the season to come. Taking a tougher more disciplined approached is irrelevant if it does not equate to results on the field.

After starting the program on a 3 win streak reality struck revealing that the team had a long way to go in becoming the texas of old.

This year, the rebuild continues with only three starters returning on defence.

Due to the minimal receiving talent, the offensive line needs to be far better, a quarterback has to be great and all the parts need to kick into offence in order to compete with TCU and Baylor.

What you need to know about the offence:

  • Joe Wickline (Offensive Co-Ordinator) is aiming to quicken up the pace and try to generate better tempo.

What you need to know about the defence:

  • The defence starts with a defensive tackle combination of Desmond Jackson on the nose next to Haasan Ridgeway.

In order to emerge victorious this season, the O line will need to be better, the receivers need to emerge, the quarterback play has to be better and the depth at running back needs to be developed.
