Bob Arum Reveals Two Frontrunners To Face Tyson Fury On December 5

It appears there is finally some progress when it comes to Tyson Fury’s next opponent.

Fury was initially set to take on Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight later this year. However, the fight is now off for the time being as Fury instead looks to compete in the United Kingdom on December 5 in preparation for a title unification fight with Anthony Joshua next year.

The only question was who Fury would face. We now have some potential answers after Top Rank Boxing promoter Bob Arum revealed Carlos Takam and Agit Kabayel were leading candidates.

“He’s deciding on an opponent,” Arum said of Fury (via Boxing Scene). “I don’t know given the football schedule if we can do it on ESPN. But until I get an opponent I’m not going to ESPN (to discuss it).

“… I’m not doing a bus boy. Fury should beat Takam but Takam is at least known and he has been on ESPN. And he looked pretty good in the last fight. The other guy (Kabayel) is undefeated and he has fought some fairly decent guys. I haven’t come up with anybody else.”

As mentioned by Arum, Takam is a well-known name in the boxing world. He was notably defeated by Joshua in their heavyweight title fight back in 2017 and has also faced the likes of Derek Chisora, Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin albeit in losing efforts.

However, the Frenchman is currently on a four-fight winning streak and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jerry Forrest.

Kabayel, meanwhile, is undefeated at 20-0 and is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Evgenios Lazaridis in July.

Either opponent wouldn’t be a bad option for Fury at this point.
