Robert Garcia Calls For ‘Legend’ Nonito Donaire To Retire

Nonito Donaire

Robert Garcia, the trainer of Nonito Donaire has urged the legend to retire.

Donaire is 41 and is on a two-fight losing streak so there isn’t much left for him to prove. Although he still is getting good money to box, Garcia is hoping his fighter decides to retire.

โ€œNonito Donaire is already a Hall of Famer,โ€ Garcia told BoxingScene. โ€œHeโ€™s a four-division world champion and heโ€™s fought great fighters. He challenged himself against some of the great fighters in the world so he doesnโ€™t need to prove anything else to himself.โ€

Although many fighters want to go out on top with a win, Robert Garcia says that isn’t needed for Donaire as he says he’s a Hall of Famer and a legend already.

โ€œHeโ€™s a legend and has accomplished a lot in his career so he doesnโ€™t need to prove nobody anything,โ€ Garcia said. โ€œI would like to see him say that heโ€™s retired but from what I understand, he might want to fight a few times more. I think he still has a little bit left but as a warrior โ€“ as a legend that he already is โ€“ he doesnโ€™t need to prove nothing to anybody. He could retire and everybody would be happy. Itโ€™s up to him. Heโ€™s still healthy and talented enough to compete but me personally โ€“ I would like to see him retire. Yeah, I would love to see him just retire, enjoy life, enjoy his family, wife and kids.โ€

Nonito Donaire is 42-8 as a pro and has held titles in four different weight classes and is the oldest boxer to win the bantamweight title, when he won it at 38.
