Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk has returned Anthony Joshua‘s heavyweight titles.

Whenever a champion in boxing loses their titles, the championships are always returned and new titles are given to the new champion. After defeating Anthony Joshua via unanimous decision, Usyk himself returned the championships to Joshua.

Usyk and Joshua will likely have a rematch at some point. That’s because Joshua has a rematch clause. He already alluded to using his option during the post-fight meetup with Usyk.

Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., who served as a color commentator on DAZN for Joshua vs. Usyk, told iFL TV that he doesn’t think Usyk can improve for the rematch against Joshua but he may not have to (h/t Boxing News 24).

“You can always get better, but you’ve got to go to a different place to get better. Usyk became cruiserweight champion. How much better is he going to get?

“If he’s [Usyk] not maxed out now, how is he going to get better? He’s already an undisputed cruiserweight champ.

“You would figure that people say that when you win a world title, you become 60% better. Well, he already did that four times.

“Now, he [Usyk] won again. What is he going to do? He don’t really got no window to get better at. What is he going to do better?

“What is he going to do differently? But he’s [Hearn] right about that. That’s the best Usyk you’re going to see,” said Jones Jr.

Oleksandr Usyk showcased a clear advantage over Joshua in terms of technical boxing. Many agreed that Joshua didn’t do enough to make Usyk worry about his punching power. In fact, it was Usyk who rocked Joshua down the stretch.
