Andrew Moloney On Franco Rematch:’We’re going to do The Trilogy Fight And We’re Hopefully Going To Have That Fight In Australia’

Andrew Moloney is coming for his WBA super flyweight title. After losing his belt in June to Joshua Franco, the 29-year-old Australian worked hard to do to prepare himself for his rematch with the Texas-native.

“The five months in between the two fights, I trained so hard and spent a lot of time away from my family, and did just absolutely everything I could to get that world title back. I was in the best shape of my life,” Moloney said in a recent interview with Brawler Sports Media.

Moloney’s hard work paid off. He quickly took control of the bout when he fought Franco just over a week ago in Las Vegas.

“I trained so hard, and as you could see in those two rounds. I was on fire, and I was dominating that fight. I was so confident that I was going to win my world title back.”

It appeared the title would be making its way to Australia after the fight was halted at the start of the third. Moloney’s impressive work had left its mark on Franco, and the doctor deemed it unsafe for Franco to continue.

However, what followed made headlines worldwide after officials declared the result a no-contest. They stated that Franco’s injuries were sustained from a headbutt, despite no evidence to back up the decision. Now it appears that Moloney and Franco are destined for a trilogy bout. It also seems that there is a strong possibility that the fight could be making its way down under.

” As soon the fights were over, we had a talk with Bob Arum, and he said to me that we still have Franco for one more fight, as part of his contract, and we’re going to make sure that it’s against you, ” Moloney said.

” We’re going to do the trilogy fight, and we’re hopefully going to have that fight in Australia in front of a big crowd because things are getting back to normal here in Australia.

“We can have big crowds at sporting events now. It’d just be amazing to have that third fight here in front of my friends and family. After all, we have been through, especially after these last couple of weeks, to win that would world title back, at home, would be really special.”

Moloney has fought twice in the States this year, so it would seem fair he gets given the chance to win his crown back on home soil. Hopefully, it will not be too much longer before boxing fans can circle the date for Moloney-Franco 3.
