Andy Ruiz Jr. Survives Knockdown To Outpoint Chris Arreola – Highlights

Andy Ruiz

Former unified Boxing heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. has been victorious in his comeback fight since losing his titles to Anthony Joshua in December of 2019, defeating Chris Arreola by unanimous decision.

The matchup was pivotal in the trajectory of Ruiz’s career and despite an early scare ‘The Destroyer was able to rally back and work his way into the driver’s seat, taking charge and winning the fight.

This clip occurred in round two and it did take the remainder of the second and entire third round before Ruiz was able to get back into control, however, from that point on he mostly dominated the action.

What won Ruiz the fight was his investment in Arreola’s body putting out more activity despite Arreola being the aggressor for the most part.

In the final goings of the fight, Ruiz put together a stream of power shots sealing the deal and ensuring the judges would score the rounds in his favor.

The final scorecards were overwhelmingly in favor of Ruiz, a fact that Arreola didn’t take kindly to, claiming that he deserved more rounds that what was scored in his favor by the judges.

“I respect the judges and I always say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” Arreola said. “Did he win? Fine. But to not give me anymore rounds, I have to be like Dr. Dre and say, ‘All you can suck my motherf—ing d—.’

“In all honesty, we can run this back. Look at me, look at my face. I’m still good.”

Overall Ruiz out-landed his opponent 161 to 109 according to CompuBox earning himself scorecards of 117-10, 118-109, and 118-109.

When speaking of his performance Ruiz shared that he felt a little rusty and that counterpunching was exactly what he and his team figured they’d need to do to secure victory.

“If he wants to run it back, we can run it back. We can have Chris Arreola-Andy Ruiz rematch and run this back here if the promoter wants,” Ruiz said.
